What is a Lip Flip?
A lip flip is a cosmetic treatment that uses neuromodulators like Botox to relax the muscles of the upper lip. Those carefully placed injections cause the lip to gently “flip” outward, creating the appearance of a fuller upper lip. Unlike lip fillers, which are injected directly into the lip to add volume, a lip flip works above the lip without adding any, which is part of why the results tend to look so natural.

What Happens During a Lip Flip?
Because it’s minimally invasive, a lip flip usually doesn’t require any numbing beforehand. That said, if you have concerns, just ask your provider about numbing cream or nerve-blocking injections to keep you comfortable.
During the treatment, one of our skilled providers uses a fine needle to inject Botox into specific points on your upper lip, including the corners of the mouth and the lip edges. You may notice tiny dots of blood along the way, which we’ll gently blot with a cotton swab.
What Happens After a Botox Lip Flip?
When the treatment wraps up, we’ll keep an eye on you for about 15 minutes to make sure you don’t have any side effects such as allergic reactions, nausea, or swelling. After that, you’re free to return to your usual activities and can drive yourself home.
Your lips might feel slightly swollen, sensitive, or numb for up to 24 hours afterward. We suggest applying an ice pack for up to 10 minutes at a time and holding off on lip products for a few days. It’s also best to avoid putting pressure on your lips for a few days, which means no kissing or sipping through a straw.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Lip Flip?
As with any cosmetic treatment, a lip flip isn’t the right fit for every smile. The ideal candidate has an overactive muscle around the mouth that pulls the upper lip inward or upward when smiling. It can also help correct minor mouth asymmetry.
